The liver performs well over 500 different functions and one of the hardest working organs in our body. It hardly ever complains until it's really strained. Perhaps, that's why we don't pay much attention to this vital organ.
Small lifestyle changes can make a big difference to your #LiverHealth. Most of these are easy to follow and require minimal effort on our part. So, without much due, here are some easy ways to look after your liver.
1. Get plenty of sleep
Sleep is essential for a host of reasons, of liver health is one. In a recent study by the University of Alabama, researchers found a link between disruption to our body's circadian clock and the liver disease. Make sure you get between 7-9 hours of sleep every night.
2. Maintain a healthy weight
Obesity is now one of the leading causes of the #LiverDisease. People with higher BMIs are at an elevated risk of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Make sure you maintain a healthy BMI range between 18-25 by eating healthily. Read our recent blog on what actually is a healthy diet for some tips and find out your BMI here.
3. Go easy on medications
Medicines are an essential part of our lives. Some of us have got used to that and very quick to take medications for even the slightest niggle. There are many over the counter medicines such as paracetamol that could damage #Liver through frequent use. So, next time when you are thinking about buying an over the counter medicine, think if you really need it.
4. Exercise regularly... walking will do ;-)
There's plenty of research that's shown the beneficial effect of exercise on the accumulation of fat in our liver. Exercising doesn't have to be hours spent in the gym. A simple 30 mins of brisk walking every day can be hugely beneficial to our liver health.
5. Quit smoking
Although liver has no direct contact with smoke itself, we do know that chemicals from smoking are among the greatest toxins you can introduce to the body. So kicking the habit will benefit you in numerous ways.
