Could a low-carbohydrate diet improves NAFLD?
The short answer seems to be yes!
NAFLD is now the leading cause of liver disease. In the UK, 1 in 3 people is affected by Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. A group of scientists from Sweden & Finland found that a low-carbohydrate diet showed a rapid & dramatic reduction of liver fat and other cardiometabolic risk factors in a small number of individuals living with the Non-Alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
A carbohydrate-restricted diet is a widely recommended intervention for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results published in the Journal of Cell Metabolism gives further credibility to such lifestyle interventions as a way of preventing liver disease. Despite the positive results, it is worth noting that the study was conducted amongst ten obese subjects affected by NAFLD.
